Volume 1, Issue 1 (2023) of the National Security Journal explores the wide range of subjects under the theme Human Security for National Development. In this premier issue, there are nine articles and two book reviews that cover a broad spectrum of issues such as the evolving role of the military in national development, energy security, cyber security in economic and social development, preventive diplomacy in the Horn of Africa, gender perspectives on human security, Kenya’s model for preventing and countering violent extremism, Kenya’s response to climate change and food insecurity, security sector reforms for sustainable human security, and the effects of the United States withdrawal from Afghanistan on human security.
